Trust Him
I sought the Lord, and he answered me
and delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 34:4
Answered prayers are such powerful things. Answered prayers will cause you to want to pray more. Answered prayers will make you see the power of God on display. Have you ever experienced such power and majesty in your life? Have you ever had God answer a prayer of yours in such a way that it ignited a passion for prayer in your life?
When our family adopted our son, every step of the way was an answer to prayer. From God putting the right people in front of us all throughout the process to God bringing home our boy – it was all an answer to prayer. Throughout the entire process all we could do was stand back and watch God work. We did our part of the process, the paperwork and other things that came with it, but all the work of the adoption was God. He made a way when we felt there was no other way. He paved the path that we thought we would not be able to walk on, and when our son arrived at home all we could do was point to God and his sovereignty. To this day, all we can do is tell people that it was God from the very beginning.
Throughout that process, as well as others in our life, when the situation did not look good, we turned to God. We sought His will in our lives and we sought to know him better. In the good times and the bad we wanted to align our will with the will of the Lord, and in that we got to know Him better. As we knew God better, our fears were relieved. As we understood who God was and what God was like, we saw that there was no reason to fear in those situations. As we follow God we trust that He is going to bring us through.
When Jesus gives the Great Commission in Matthew 28, He tells us that all power and authority has been given to Him, and then reminds us that He is with us always. When we find ourselves face to face with fear, we need to recall the promise of Jesus, that He is with us. We need to seek the Lord, seek to know Him and understand who He is. This is no easy task. It is not like we can simply tell our fears to go away. We need to seek God so that we can know Him better. When we get to know God we will love Him more deeply and enjoy Him. It is in this that we can truly overcome our fear.
Pray:
· That our will would align with God’s
· That we would seek God in all that we do
· That we could help others overcome their fears by pointing them to the Lord
