A New Year
I entered into 2024 looking forward to all that God is going to do this year. I don’t know what it is or what it will look like, but I eagerly and expectantly wait for God to move in mighty ways. I’ve also challenged the church to do the same, but, for some reason, I keep seeing people talking about how bad things are already.
We’re only 1 week into the year, and there are already people out there focusing on negativity. Maybe it is my friend group, but there are so many people on social media who are talking about not liking this year. We need to remember one thing: turning the page on the calendar does not magically start something new.
If we want this year to be different than last year, we need to do things differently. We need to stop focusing on the bad things that are happening and start to look at where God is at work among us…and join Him!
2024 is going to be a great year for me. How do I know this? Because the God that I serve is great and I am focusing this year (and my life) on His kingdom and His righteousness (Matt. 6:33). If this is where our heart is, and this is where we are choosing to focus our eyes, then the year is going to be awesome.
If you’re starting to feel like 2024 is not that great, I want you to ask yourself one question: What have I done for the kingdom of God today? Be honest with yourself, but answer that question. If today was all about you, then you need to shift your priorities. If today was just about surviving, I get that, but God doesn’t want you to simply survive, He wants you to thrive (John 10:10). We need to think FIRST of God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and the rest will be added to us. He will give us what we need when we stop worrying about it and start living for Him.
Let’s get busy living for Him today.
