Boldness in Prayer

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. - James 5:15

We’ve been talking about all kinds of things in our weekly prayer meeting and Bible study, but one theme that has come up over and over again is being bold in our prayers. Abraham was bold as he addressed God. Moses was bold as well. Nehemiah was bold in his request of the Lord and of the king.

The Apostle Paul requested prayer from those whom he was writing to at least 8 times. In those 8 requests, his primary concern is that he would be bold in sharing the gospel. Scripture tells us that we have not been given a spirit of fear, but one of power (2 Tim 1:7). Yet, when we come to the Lord in prayer, we come as meek children asking for another dessert from a domineering lunch-lady. Our prayers should be bold, knowing that there is great power in the prayers of the righteous person.

If we want a person to be healed of affliction, we should pray for that. Often times, though, we do not want to pray for healing because we think that if God does not heal that person, then people may look at God as someone who cannot heal. This should not be a reason not to pray for that healing. We know that God is going to accomplish His will, no matter what. Why not ask for healing?

We should also be bold in our sharing of the gospel. We should pray for boldness in sharing. We should seek opportunities to share the gospel with the least of these. God can and will rescue those who call upon His name - so let’s be bold in sharing the gospel with as many people as we can, and be bold in asking the Lord to bring people to Him.
